Irfan Syauqi Beik, Puskas BAZNAS director, met CEO of Pusat Pungutan Zakat (PPZ) Malaysia, Tn Haji Mohd Rais in Kuala Lumpur last Monday (10/17). They were discussing two main issues. The first one was related to the ZCP implementation and the second one was on commitment to more active collaboration in international zakat network.

ZCP, which stands for Zakat Core Principles, is the document that attempts to improve the quality of zakat management. Irfan and Rais agreed to start adopting this ZCP in their respective institution. “BAZNAS has attempted to adopt several principles, such as allocation to collection ratio, which is financial ratio that compares the amount of allocated zakat with that of collected zakat”, Irfan said in the meeting. PPZ CEO replied that he also wanted to initiate ZCP socialization to other zakat authorities in other states in Malaysia. Rais said, “We hope that other states in Malaysia can also participate in adopting this ZCP as it attempts to improve the quality of zakat management.” So far, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were the most active states representing Malaysia in the discussion of ZCP.

As for technical notes on good amil governance and risk management that will be discussed next week on 28th October, both Puskas BAZNAS director and PPZ CEO agreed that these technical notes should provide guidance in more details so that any zakat institution can adopt them. The two were of the view that BAZNAS and PPZ should set up good examples in implementing these notes.

At the end of the meeting, Irfan and Rais agreed to boost international role of BAZNAS and PPZ as the two institutions have good and strong relationship for more than a decade. Assistant General of PPZ, Amran Hazali, also attended the meeting. He added that stronger role played by the two institutions may give bigger benefit for international development of zakat system.
