The National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) won the Global Good Governance SDGs Champion Award 2020. This award is an international award organized by Cambridge International Financial Advisory (IFA) for institutions that have good governance and commitment to social welfare.

In the 3G SDGs Champion Award 2020, BAZNAS won award in the category of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the success in realizing the goals of global SDGs

BAZNAS Chairman Bambang Sudibyo explained that this achievement could be achieved through programs designed by BAZNAS.

"As a zakat institution, BAZNAS provides various programs and activities, particularly to help those affected by Covid-19 pandemic crisis. We distribute family logistics packages, Personal Protective Equipment for medical teams, food security programs and others," said Bambang in a statement on Tuesday (9/6/2020).

Bambang explained, aid programs and activities that have been enacted to help those affected by Covid-19 crisis are also in line with the basis of SDGs programs, be it carried out by Provincial BAZNAS, District/City BAZNAS or private zakat institutions (LAZ) throughout Indonesia.

Separately, BAZNAS Executive Director M Arifin Purwakananta said the award is an appreciation of the performance of Amil and Amilat of BAZNAS.

This is also an appreciation to BAZNAS and LAZ's efforts throughout Indonesia in committing to improve the quality of life of the less fortunate through management of zakat, donation, sadaqah and other religious social funds.

"I hope this award can also encourage zakat contribution to a wider world community, in the important role of exploration and application of zakat concept so it becomes the answer to various problems of poverty and challenges of sustainability of mankind," explained Arifin.

In connection with the SDG’s program, previously in 2019, BAZNAS also won the Padmamitra Award 2019 from DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and the Jakarta CSR Forum.

This award is given to profit and non-profit organizations that have contributed to social welfare and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia.
