Jakarta, Tuesday, March 11, 2025 – The National Board of Zakat Republic of Indonesia (BAZNAS RI) reaffirms its commitment to optimizing the management of Zakat, Infak, and Sedekah (ZIS) to support national development and poverty alleviation. This was conveyed by the Vice Chairman of BAZNAS RI, Mokhamad Mahdum SE, MIDEc, Ak, CA, CPA, CWM, during the Economic Challenges Special Ramadan Talkshow: Social Development Based on ZISWAF in Jakarta.
According to Mahdum, ZISWAF plays a strategic role in empowering the economy of the ummah. “Optimizing the management of ZISWAF with an innovative approach will enhance effectiveness in transforming mustahik into muzakki and accelerate the achievement of development goals based on Sharia principles,” he stated.
BAZNAS continues to advance zakat digitalization through collaborations with banks, commercial platform applications, and e-commerce. Innovations such as the Zakat Virtual Assistant and Voice Command Zakat Assistant based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) have significantly improved efficiency and transparency. Digital zakat collection has increased by an average of 202.5 percent over the past ten years.
ZIS funds are not only used for consumptive assistance but are also allocated to various economic empowerment programs, including MSMEs, the creative economy, and agriculture. In 2024, BAZNAS disbursed IDR 68.3 billion to 26,778 MSME mustahik to help transition them into muzakki.
Mahdum urged the public to fulfill their zakat obligations through official institutions such as BAZNAS to ensure that funds are managed professionally and effectively.
With these efforts, BAZNAS remains optimistic about continuing its contribution to national development and poverty alleviation through zakat optimization.
