The Food Barn of the National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) Sukabumi is preparing to supply 133.7 tons of rice for Zakat Fitrah 1446 AH to be distributed to several provinces, including Jakarta, West Java, and surrounding areas.
The amount to be met in the zakat fitrah rice procurement program is 26,625 packs. The procurement of unhulled rice to be milled into rice has been carried out since the beginning of Ramadan through the drying process using ovens and manually.
Head of BAZNAS RI for Distribution and Empowerment Saidah Sakwan, M.A., said that the Sukabumi Food Barn program can be a real example of community economic empowerment.
“This is a real example of community empowerment that is integrated in the agricultural sector with zakat distribution. Lumbung Pangan Sukabumi not only provides quality food, but also contributes to improving the welfare of farmers and mustahik zakat recipients,” Saidah said in a written statement in Jakarta, Thursday (3/20/2025).
Saidah also said that the Sukabumi Food Barn can create sustainable resilience and in the future more and more farmers will be helped.
“If today there are already 735 BAZNAS-assisted farmers, then in the future it will continue to grow. And BAZNAS really appreciates the dedication of farmers and assistants for participating in meeting the food needs of the Indonesian people. Hopefully there will be many jobs created and can improve the welfare of mustahik,” he said.
“Through Lumbung Pangan Sukabumi, BAZNAS RI wants to make mustahik not only as recipients of zakat, but also as part of a wider ecosystem. This is our effort to achieve sustainable zakat,” Saidah concluded.
Meanwhile, Teddy as a BAZNAS-assisted farmer, felt many benefits from joining this program and felt very proud to be able to contribute to the distribution of zakat fitrah this year. This success gives him a sense of pride, as his work not only improves his personal welfare, but also has a positive impact on the community.
“Alhamdulillah, I have felt many benefits since joining the BAZNAS Food Barn, especially in increasing residents' income. The rice we produce consists of 3 types of organic rice with environmentally friendly quality,” said Teddy.
On the same occasion, farmer facilitator Erick Mulyana revealed that the mentoring program for mustahiks is an integral part of the Sukabumi Food Barn. Farmers who initially received zakat are now empowered to become part of a sustainable production system.
“The preparations we make to fulfill the zakat fitrah distribution we use 250 hectares of land, we use organic farming methods for optimal results. In addition, we hold regular meetings with members to build communication, so that they not only get economic benefits but increase their understanding of zakat,” Erick said.
