The Indonesian National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) sent a team of health workers from the BAZNAS Healthy House (RSB), led directly by the Head of BAZNAS RI for Distribution and Utilization, Saidah Sakwan, M.A., to provide medical assistance to earthquake victims in Myanmar.
The health team from the BAZNAS Healthy House (RSB) departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Thursday (3/4/2025), after being officially released by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono.
Chairman of BAZNAS RI, Prof. Dr. KH. Noor Achmad, MA, emphasized the importance of the role of the health team from Rumah Sehat BAZNAS (RSB) in helping earthquake victims in Myanmar.
"BAZNAS as an official government institution that manages zakat, infak, and sedekah, continues to strive to distribute aid quickly and on target, especially now for earthquake victims in Myanmar," said Kiai Noor.
"And this is a strong team belonging to BAZNAS, which will help with the Myanmar earthquake," he said.
Before being dispatched, said Kiai Noor, all personnel received tetanus vaccinations as a preventive measure against the risk of disease in the affected areas. In addition, the team was also provided with medicines and medical equipment to support services at the disaster site.
Kiai Noor explained that the health team consists of five personnel, including doctors, nurses, and health workers trained in handling emergency conditions. They will work together with other humanitarian teams to ensure that medical assistance is distributed quickly and on target.
He said that the earthquake that hit Myanmar caused thousands of people to lose their homes and suffer injuries. This condition makes the presence of medical personnel very much needed to provide assistance to the victims. In addition to medical services, Kiai Noor continued, the BAZNAS Health Team also brought assistance in the form of medicines, health equipment, and basic necessities for survivors, which are expected to help restore the condition of the affected community.
Not only health workers were deployed, said Kiai Noor, BAZNAS RI also sent various forms of assistance, including 100 generator units, 50 tents, 1,000 hygiene packages, 5,000 blankets, 10,000 sarongs, 5,000 women's needs packages, 5,000 children's needs packages, and a number of medicine packages, with a total aid value reaching IDR 2.5 billion.
"The dispatch of the BAZNAS Health Team confirms the important role of zakat institutions, such as BAZNAS, in responding to emergency conditions, both at home and abroad, including for Myanmar citizens who are facing difficult times," said Kiai Noor.
"We hope this assistance can ease the burden of our brothers and sisters in Myanmar. This is part of the mandate that we must carry out," he said.
Previously, BAZNAS RI had also sent a humanitarian team consisting of 1 person from the Humanitarian Assistance Task Force Advance Team (Bannusia) and 5 people from the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team to help earthquake victims in Myanmar.
