Pamijahan, Bogor - July 17, 2025
The Bogor Waqf Forest Foundation, in collaboration with Mosaic IPB and the Department of Islamic Economics at IPB FEM, hosted a Village Kenclengization Program Socialization Forum at the Purwabakti Waqf Forest, Pamijahan District, Bogor Regency. The event featured Dr. Muhammad Hasbi Zaenal, Ph.D, Director of ZIS-DSKL Research and Development at BAZNAS RI, as the keynote speaker.

Dr. Hasbi shared insights on the “Kenclengization” model, a household-based donation system developed to support community-managed zakat ecosystems. He highlighted its successful application in Ciamis Regency, West Java, where local zakat collection units (UPZ Desa) engage residents to give regularly through family-based giving mechanisms. With a structured collector system at the neighborhood level, consistent reminders to donate, and clear reporting procedures, this model has proven to be both inclusive and accountable.
Kenclengization is more than just a fundraising method; it is a movement that nurtures a culture of mutual care, social solidarity, and practical spirituality. The donations collected are not centralized but are instead fully redistributed to the local community based on need, through a deliberative process involving neighborhood proposals and coordination with UPZ units.
This forum marked the beginning of efforts to adopt this approach in Cibunian and Purwabakti Villages. Both are seen as having strong social and spiritual potential to successfully implement a grassroots donation movement rooted in the household. Local village heads, community cadres, and religious figures expressed strong interest in developing the program tailored to their village contexts.

The event was also attended by representatives from Urban Wahyu Bogor, the IPB MOSAIC team, faculty and students from the Department of Islamic Economics at IPB University, and BAZNAS Bogor Regency. Each stakeholder affirmed their commitment to supporting the establishment and strengthening of Village UPZ units as the cornerstone of the kenclengization system.
In his remarks, Dr. Khalifah Muhamad Ali, Chairman of the Bogor Waqf Forest Foundation, emphasized that kenclengization is not only about collecting donations but about instilling a sustainable culture of giving and empowerment in daily family life. He referred to the program as a form of social and spiritual education that cultivates long-term community resilience.
BAZNAS RI envisions this model as a gateway toward establishing Zakat Villages across Indonesia. Inspired by the success of Panyingkiran Village in Ciamis as a literacy-based zakat village, the kenclengization approach offers a clear pathway for inclusive, grassroots-led zakat development supported by local governments, faith institutions, and educational partners.
