The qurbani tradition in various Muslim-majority countries, including Indonesia, is not only a form of religious observance, but has also had a significant economic impact, especially for the poor in terms of solving stunting cases. The Indonesian Health Survey 2023 stated that the average national stunting prevalence of 21.5% is still far from the RPJMN 2020-2024 target of 14% by 2024.

BAZNAS projects that the economic potential of qurbani in Indonesia in 2024 will reach IDR 34.3 trillion. This projection is based on the estimated participation of around 2.75 million households, or mudohi, who will participate in this year's qurbani. Based on this potential, a total of around 2.3 million livestock consisting of 1.79 million sheep/goats and 514 thousand cows are expected to produce around 195.5 thousand tons of qurbani meat.

The implementation of qurbani in Indonesia is not the only solution to overcome poverty and the prevalence of stunting. However, Eid al-Adha is a good momentum in fulfilling the animal protein needs of the poor and improving the welfare of mustahik farmers, the poor in particular and the wider community in general.
