• Extreme Poverty is the inability of individuals to meet basic human needs to support survival, including the fulfillment of food, clean water, proper sanitation, health, housing, education and access to information on income and social services (BPS).
  • The percentage of poor people in March 2023 was 9.36 percent, down 0.21 percentage points compared to September 2022 and down 0.18 percentage points compared to March 2022.
  • The Extreme Poverty Rate in March 2023 reached 1.12% or a significant decrease of 0.92 percentage points from the March 2022 condition of 2.04%.
  • During 2021-2022, there was the highest increase in the Extreme Poor Population in the provinces of: Papua, East Nusa Tenggara, and Central Kalimantan.
    Meanwhile, the provinces that experienced the highest decrease in the Extreme Poor Population were in the provinces of: West Papua, North Sulawesi, and the Riau Islands.
  • The following provincial areas have poverty rates above the national poverty percentage: Aceh, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, Central Java, DIY, East Java, NTB, NTT, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Gorontalo, West Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, and West Papua.
